  • 私は~だと思う
    • I think (that) + 肯定文
  • 私は~ないと思う(私は~と思わない)
    • I don't think (that) + 肯定文
      • 「彼は試験に受からないと思う」は I think he doesn't pass the exam. ではなく I don't think he pass the exam. が自然な言い方。
      • S think + 否定文 は、主語が否定文の内容を確実と言い切れるような場合には使える。例えば、自分が先生という立場から見て「彼は(ほぼ確実に)試験に落ちる」と思ってるなら I think he doesn't pass the exam. と言っても不自然ではない。
  • 誰かを出口まで見送る
    • show someone out/show out someone
    • see oneself out
      • show oneself outも間違いではないが「お前の助けは要らない」というネガティブなニュアンスを含むので、普通は使わない方がいいらしい。
  • needn't have done
    • 「(今になって思えば)する必要はなかった(が、すでに行ってしまった)」:行動ずみ!!
    • I needn't have got up so early. That day was holiday. そんなに早く起きる必要はなかった(が起きてしまった)。その日は休日だった。
  • didn't need to do
    • 「する必要はなかった」:実際に行ったかどうかは争点ではない
    • I didn't need to got up so early. そんなに早く起きる必要はなかった(起きたかどうかは定かではない)
  • 文句を言う/非難する
    • blame : 通常、批判の対象者を取る
      • Amnesty International are blaming Japan about its execution as always.
    • criticise : 批判する事柄を取る
      • Amnesty International are criticising execution in Japan as always.
  • 昨日には/明日には/~には=~の時点で
    • as of ~。as of yesterday, as of tomorrow, as of now, as of 2018
  • 明日大丈夫?(事前に決めた予定通りで問題ない?)
    • Are we still on for tommorow?
    • Are we still on for 予定 on 日時や曜日?
